Girl Scouts, joined by officials from the City and County, showed their patriotism on the10th anniversary of September 11th at the annual Mayor's Walk of Remembrance through downtown Honolulu.  Click here to watch returning Cadette scout, Elizabeth of troop 377, reflected on the importance of this experience.

Following the day's activities, we received this letter from her troop mates, Joy and Marisa:

We were touched by being included in the Mayor's Walk on Sunday, September 11, 2011, at the 10th anniversary to pay tribute to those who died, survived, defended and protected our country.  We, along with many members of the City and County personnel and representatives of the State of Hawaii, and Federal Government offices, took time to congregate together with others and reflect on the horrific attack of our country. Many speakers mentioned that it changed the face of our country in the last decade and in all of our years as Girl Scouts, this day's event was quite memorable.

We talked at the end of the event and reflected on the reasons that we joined scouts- to learn how to become a leader, uphold the Girl Scout Law and to serve God and our country. We have been doing the Walk for the last 5 out of the 6 years that this event has been held and we were glad that the rest of our troop was able to witness and walk the event. Thank you for sponsoring this and making this a special time.
We are glad to be Americans (and Girl Scouts)!

What unfolded on September 11th a decade ago left a profound imprint on our nation and we are glad not only to continually make opportunities like this available, but also to know that they are enriching the understanding of what it means to be a Girl Scout today.
